I think it all depends on your motives, God always looks at people's motives for doing things their heart. In the bible i know it says we are all wonderfully and beautifully made. and God makes all things beautiful in their time. I don't believe that lightening your skin is bad, just the motive, if you are trying to remove some pigmentation and scarring and ehance yourself and make yourself more beautiful, i believe thats ok, God made all of these ingredients and caused the person to discover hydroquinone for this purpose. But where we misuse what he gave us and we wanna jump to 6 shades and completely eradicate what God has made, then that may be saying to God, God you made me the wrong colour i want to be of another complexion the same goes for permanent tanners too. But God gave us the choice to decorate and enhance our bodies as we like. For we are like dust the wind blows over it and it is gone. Meaning we don't have a lot of time to enjoy our lives why spend your life living in a body you hate why? God didn't make anyone ugly, however we as human beings are affected by society's views and dictations on what is deemed beautiful and what is not. And some people feel they are more beautiful lighter than they are dark. So do what you need to do to make yourself feel better and more confident in yourself but don't over do it, and destroy your skin.

Yea it makes alot of sense and the main thing God is looking for is that you believe in Jesus Christ and accept him as your personal Savior. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." __________________ A positive thread will only last for a minute but a negative one will last forever. |

| I'm guessing your talking about the Christian god, right? I've studied the bible and many many books about the history of Christianity and other religions. You can't just pick and choose what to believe. They have rules for a reason. The Bible is a guidebook. Some things are not read in the right way and you need to do research. I believe in faith, not blind faith.
Proverbs 11:2 2When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 16:18 18Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
The Hebrew word typically translated as "vanity" is "awen," which had a variety of meanings, among them boastfulness, nothingness, falseness, sin, distress and difficulty. The meanings overlap and sometimes give the single word "vanity" a layering of interpretations.
The King James Version uses the word "vanity" often, but later translations typically change the word to one of the other interpretations.
Most of the references to vanity occur in the Old Testament.SignificanceThe word is most often used in the Bible to signify emptiness, pointlessness and worthlessness. The book of Ecclesiastes, written by King Solomon, shows how he learned that God is the only path to finding meaning in life. Using a messianic character called "the Preacher" to illustrate his points, he begins Ecclesiastes by identifying the Preacher and then saying, "Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities, all is vanity." He goes on to point out all the apparent pointlessness of human life, and has a continuing theme that "all is vanity and vexation of spirit."
Another example occurs in Job 7:16: "I loathe it; I would not live always: let me alone; for my days are vanity."
Isaiah 40:17 addresses the concept of vanity as worthlessness: "All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity." Tattoos/Piercings Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:28
